World Refugee Day
June 20, 2024 is World Refugee Day. This day, which was established by the UN in 2001, is an international day designated by the UN “to honor refugees around the globe.” Today, in 2024, the statistics are staggering. And they are not statistics. They are people. According to the UNHCR the latest number of refugees and internally displaced peoples forced from their homes comes to somewhere around 120 million.  This is 1.5 percent of the world’s population. At the end of 2023 this meant that 1 in 69 people on earth, due to” persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations or events seriously disturbing public order” were either refugees or internally displaced.  Approximately 40 percent of these are under the age of 18.
Over the past decade Tying Vines has worked to alleviate the suffering and the huge need of many of these people.  This year in recognition of the millions of children who are refugees we are launching the Renew and Revive Gathering. Most of the refugee children we serve through our many projects are third culture kids-TCKs. Third Culture Kids are children who spend their formative years in a country and culture different from their parents’ or their own birthplace. They face challenges and questions tied to their own identity and worth, as well as the uncertainty of what is next for them. “They question their belonging , their identity, and the stability of their future” says Mary Kenney, President of Tying Vines.
In October, for the Renew and Revive Gathering, 10-15 people will travel with Tying Vines overseas to work with 100 children. For three days, these children will be loved and celebrated. They will have the opportunity to have fun and learn that are seen, important, and loved by God.

Please help make this happen. We need to raise 20,000 dollars to create the space for this event.  We want to give these precious refugees an opportunity to experience love and hope in a way that they may have never experienced before.   As always, please pray. June 20, 2024 -a day to remember the millions in need around the world.
