This month we celebrate World Refugee Day, a day marked to acknowledge the strength and humanity of the millions who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence, or persecution. Established by the United Nations in 2001, this day calls the world to remember not just statistics, but stories. Not just numbers, but names.
And this year, those numbers are more staggering than ever.
According to the UNHCR, more than 120 million people around the world are currently displaced. That’s 1 in every 69 people on Earth. Every minute, families are being torn apart. Children are falling asleep on cold ground instead of beds. Nearly 40% of the displaced are under the age of 18 children whose childhoods are being shaped by trauma, loss, and uncertainty.
But at Tying Vines, we know many of these people personally. We have sat around dinner tables and heard their stories, we have held their new born babies, and we have both rejoiced and mourned with them.
Our Ongoing Commitment to Refugees
Over the past decade, Tying Vines has worked in some of the world’s hardest places war zones, refugee camps, remote villages to bring tangible help and the love of Christ to the displaced. Through our incredible local partners, we’ve been able to offer food, trauma care, medical aid, education, and spiritual support.

Sudanese Refugees in Egypt: A New Frontier of Ministry
This year, our focus turns toward Egypt, a country now hosting the largest number of Sudanese refugees. Since the war erupted in Sudan, more than 1.5 million Sudanese people have crossed into Egypt seeking safety. Of those, over 600,000 are officially registered with the UNHCR. And countless more remain in limbo unregistered, unsupported, and unseen.
This influx has placed a heavy strain on Egypt’s already limited resources. Many refugees face barriers to accessing food, healthcare, education, and legal status. But in the middle of this crisis, God is at work.
That’s why we are organizing a vision trip to Egypt from October 31 – November 7 to work alongside our partners, ABN – Ambassadors By The Nile, who are faithfully serving these communities every day. Through refugee outreach, children’s programs, youth support, and medical care, ABN is a light in the darkness and we are honored to stand with them.
