April is Global Volunteer Month—a special time to pause and recognize the heart and hands behind so much of what we do at Tying Vines. This year, we are honored to highlight one of our dearest volunteer families—the Settle family—and their longtime friend and encourager, Carla Stutenroth.
Some friendships are woven so deeply into the fabric of an organization that you can’t imagine the story without them. That’s how we feel about Annette Settle. Annette and our founder, Mary Kenney, have been friends for nearly 30 years. When Jeff and Mary launched Tying Vines, Annette was right there, joining Mary on visits to projects, meeting local leaders, praying, encouraging, and offering a quiet but steady support that has blessed us in more ways than we can count.
As she walked alongside Mary, Annette caught the vision for what Tying Vines could be—not just an organization, but a community that uplifts, supports, and champions leaders around the globe. She shared that vision with her family, and together they became a vital part of the Tying Vines story.
Annette’s son, Adam, became our Volunteer Leader Encourager and soon felt the call to serve overseas. Another son, George, volunteered at Home of Hope in Beirut, and her other children—Richard, Amanda, Rachel, and Charlotte—have each stepped in to serve with open hands and open hearts.
Last fall, the Settle family was instrumental in organizing our fundraising dinner in Mechanicsburg, PA. It was a beautiful evening full of connection, generosity, and hope—and it wouldn’t have been possible without them. Richard served as the emcee, Amanda warmly welcomed guests at the check-in table, Rachel and Charlotte supported the Work of Worth table, and Adam greeted guests with his signature kindness.
And then there is Gig, Annette’s husband, whose quiet support has been felt behind the scenes in countless ways. Together, the Settles have not only served—they have opened their home to host leaders, gatherings, and Friends of Tying Vines events, offering the kind of hospitality that makes people feel known and cared for.
Our founder, Mary, said it best:
“Annette has been a blessing through her interest, excitement, and deep care for our leaders. She brings joy and encouragement in a way that is deeply felt.”
We also want to recognize Carla Stutenroth, Annette’s dear friend of over thirty years. When Adam was born with Cobalamin C Deficiency, Carla stood by Annette’s side, offering help, encouragement, and friendship that has endured through every season. When Adam launched his podcast, Carla stepped in as his assistant, continuing her legacy of love and support.
At our fundraising dinner, Carla served right alongside the Settles, designing beautiful table décor using Work of Worth products and offering her time and talents in every detail.
The Settle family, along with Carla, reminds us that volunteering isn’t just about giving time—it’s about giving your heart. And in doing so, they’ve become part of the very soul of Tying Vines.
We are so grateful for Annette, Gig, their children, and faithful friends like Carla. Thank you for showing us what it looks like to serve with joy, vision, and steadfast love. You are the heartbeat of this community.
