As of April 9, 2026, the total estimated number of displaced people in Lebanon is over 1.2 million, according to multiple sources including the UN, Reuters, Al Jazeera, and humanitarian agencies.  This represents nearly one-fifth of Lebanon’s population.

The displacement has been driven by Israeli airstrikes and evacuation orders since the escalation began on March 2, 2026, affecting southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and Beirut’s southern suburbs.  In addition:

  • Nearly 390,000 children are among the displaced (UNICEF).
  • Around 136,000 are sheltered in government-organized collective shelters, mostly in schools.
  • The majority rely on informal arrangements, host communities, or private accommodations.
